1942 Snow and Swamp-going Vehicle Studebaker М29С Weasel (the USA)

In 1942 the allies needed a special purpose crawler transporter to conduct warfare in winter. The Studebaker firm got the specification on this transporter in May, 1942. The production of the new automobile was established that year.
The snow and swamp-going М29 were employed from the first day of the landing in Normandy in the summer of 1944. The vehicle despite the caterpillar tread succeeded to be nimble (according to passport the maximum speed amounts to 58 km/h), so it handled the role of a support vehicle very well. Designed to conquer snowy peaks, the М29 endured summer as well which did credit to its creators. The real fame was achieved by the М29 in the winter of 1944-45 in the course of combat actions in Ardennes. The maneuver fully tracked snow-going vehicle was actively applicable for supply support and casualty evacuation from fighting ground. The vehicle showed itself off more credible than the Ford GPA similar according to the class. The transporter appeared to be so felicitous that it was operated in the armies of different countries till 1984.
