1937 Einheits-Diesel (Germany)

In the middle of the 30ies the command of the Wehrmacht set a challenge to devise an army vehicle of 2.5 tons load-carrying ability, having an all-wheel drive and a diesel engine. The production of the truck which received the le. gl. Einheits-LKW. 2.5t designation began in 1937. These cars were manufactured at the factories Büssing-NAG, Borgward, MAN, Henschel, Magirus, FAUN and Krupp. The main peculiarity of the vehicle, more famous under the name Einheits-Diesel (unified diesel), was the impossibility to distinct the automobile of one manufacturer from the automobile of the other. Thanks to this standardization quite a big production volume was achieved, a total of 11,800 items of the Einheits-Diesel were made from 1937 till 1940.
