1944 BА-64B (the USSR)
The development of a light all-wheel drive armored automobile for Red Army began in July of 1941 upon an initiative of the GAZ automotive designer V. A. Grachev. The vehicle had to replace the light armored motorcar BA-20M on the base of the GAZ M1 automobile. The light command vehicle GAZ-64 was used as the chassis for a future armored car. The test vehicle was built in January of 1942 and in March the armored motorcar, received the designation BA-64 (the initial index is LB-64), passed the trials successfully, so its serial manufacture began in the summer. The production of the BA-64B on the base of the GAZ-67B chassis began since 1944. A total of 9,110 armored motorcars of the BA-64 line (including 5,209 BA-64B) were produced from 1942 to 1946.
