1943 М16 Multiple Gun Motor Carriage (the USA)

In May 1943 the White Motor Co. began to manufacture an improved version of the self-propelled antiaircraft weapon М13 Multiple Gun Motor Carriage. The M3 half-track tractor was used as the base for the self-propelled antiaircraft weapon. The principle distinction of the new self-propelled antiaircraft weapon which got the М16 Multiple Gun Motor Carriage marking became the М45 mount equipped with four 12.7-mm Browning М2 machine-guns. The anti-aircraft mount had a big fire power and a very high slewing rate. A total of 2,877 М16 MGMC were manufactured. Moreover, the International Harvester firm produced 1,000 MGMC self-propelled anti-aircraft weapons on the base of the M5 half-track tractor (it was distinguished by the engine, the front axle, the front fenders and the stern section). All М17 MGMC were supplied to the USSR under the lend-lease program.
