1941 GMC CCKW-353 (the USA)

In October, 1940 American Army Armament Command sanctioned engineering of a three-axle truck of 2.5 tons payload. The new truck received a cab of a simple construction more suitable for war production. The series model got the GMC CCKW designation and its manufacturing began in February, 1941. The army chose the GMC CCKW as a standard truck. The vehicle was produced with two chassis types: 352 (base is 145 inches) and 353 (base is 164 inches). Later an open version of the cabin with a fabric top appeared. From 1941 till 1945 there were about 600, 000 GMC CCKW made. These trucks were delivered under the lend-lease program, about 6,700 GMC CCKW found the way to the USSR, predominately 352 models.
