The Janecek arms factory was looking for an alternative after contracts from the armed forces came to an end in the late nineteen twenties, and began producing the German 'Wanderer' motorcycle under licence. Taking the name from the first two letters of Janecek and the first two letters of Wanderer, the first model under the Jawa barnd was this 500 OHV, nicknamed 'Rattler'.
