М-72 is a Soviet heavy motorcycle. It was mass-produced from 1941 till 1960 год at the plants MMZ (Moscow), GMZ (Gorky), IMZ (Irbit), Red October (Leningrad), KMZ (Kiev). Primarily it was designed for military needs only and till the mid-fifties the motorcycle did not hit the market.

Since 1955 года the motorbikes М-72 began to be sold to the public. The civil version of the plant IMZ was distinguished with an improved engine, an enforced wheel and frame, a torsion suspension the sidecar wheel, a new color grade and an inscription “Irbit” on the fuel tank. However, all these civil motorbikes were liable for military duty in the military enlistment office and they were subject to requisition during the war time. The motorcycles K-750M were employed in the Honorary Cortege from 1956 till 1961.
