1942 ZIS-44
The ZIS-44 is a medical vehicle produced on the base of the ZIS-5В. Instead of a standard load board a wooden box van body was set. The decision to make such a car was taken already soon after the beginning of the Great Patriotic War, but they managed to have launched manufacturing only by the middle of 1942.
The ZIS-44 was supplied with a simplified rectangular wooden body of multipurpose use with one side, two rear doors and a roof, lined with painted canvas cloth. The vehicle was designed to carry four (according to other data - 7) patients on stretchers or 18 sitting wounded.
According to some reports the car body was also used for location different workshops, mobile chemist’s shops, operating rooms and photo laboratories. A total 517 medical vehicles ZIS-44 were produced during incomplete two years.
