1926 Packard 326 Six

The Third Series Six was introduced on February 2, 1925, and was produced for eighteen months, stopping on August 2, 1926. It was offered on two different wheelbases, the Model 326 with 126", and the 333 carrying a 133" span. A total of 40,358 vehicles were produced in combination with available body styles.

The six-cylinder engine featured a seven main bearing crankshaft, and a bore and stroke of 3 ½ " x 5". Brake horsepower was listed at 61. The engine also incorporated two unique items: an oil rectifier, and a 'Gasolizer'. The former was used as an oil purifier, burning off condensation and fuel that had contaminated the oil. It was a complicated system that was dropped in later years in favor of a more conventional filtration system. The Gasolizer, used only on this Series, was an experimental 7th combustion chamber mounted on the carburetor, complete with a spark plug, fuel supply, and sight glass for visual adjustments. Its function was to vaporize the fuel prior to entering the intake manifold, thus improving fuel economy and performance.
