Starting in 1948, the roadster prototype "No.1" is succeeded by the first 356 light-alloy coupes, enabling Porsche to participate in auto racing. The engine is relocated behind the rear axle, and even without a wind tunnel the aluminum body has a very low drag coefficient. The French Porsche importer Auguste Veuillet achieves an average speed of 118 km/h. which earns him a class victory in his very first attempt.
