The prototype of the future Porsche 944 receives the internal code name of 924 GTP. In 1981 the engineers deploy this turbo-powered racing car to Le Mans without any expectation of winning: their objective is a test-drive under the most severe conditions. Nevertheless, Walter Röhrl and Jürgen Barth cover the 4,401 kilometers at an average speed of 184 km/h. with the shortest pit-stop times, to bag a class win and place seventh in the overall rankings.
