1944 IFA Phänomen Granit 1500

Such automobiles were used to transport "mail sacks" between a post office and a railway station. They were employed as far as 1970.
When the Post garage was being cleaned in Vienna a club member discovered this car which was saved from throwing out to waste landfill.
This model is IFA Phänomen Granit 1500 1944 года.

The end of the 1930-s in Germany – the country was preparing for war at that time and transferred the industry to wartime footing. For that purpose in 1938 the Law on centralization of automobile industry control was ordained (so called Schnellplan). The aim of the law was to lower the automobile models variety to guarantee in such a way providing the country’s car park and the Army first and utmost with standard spare parts.

As the result of this law the enterprise Phänomen Werke Gustav Hiller AG was obligated to limit the industrial assortment only to one model with load-carrying capacity of 1.5 ton, produced in two variants – with rear and all-wheel drive. Thus, a new truck Phänomen Granit 1500 was created the production of which began in 1941 and continued till the end of the war. But the production of the other models Granit 25 and Granit 30 ceased in 1941. According to the instructions of the government the truck Phänomen Granit 1500 was built in two versions: the civil Phänomen Granit 1500 S and the military Phänomen Granit 1500 А, equipped with a four-wheel drive.
