1952 NSU Sidecar 501 Konsul II

NSU Werke (Neckarsulmer Motorenwerke)

The company NSU began motorcycle production in 1901, four years before it started producing automobiles. The company prospered thanks to the motorcycle manufacturing and despite the fact that air strikes and bomb attacks during World War II destroyed its factories, the company NSU became the world largest motorcycle manufacturer by the mid-1950s.
Rumours are in the air that the name " Konsul " was chosen for this bike, because it included the letters "NSU". The employed advertising slogan is "a wise head buys the Konsul." This bike is often used with a side-car.
In the early 1950s the NSU worried that a micro-auto might change a motorcycle. Thus, they introduced their own micro-automobile in 1958. The NSU also released their first commercial car with Wankel engine.

NSU Werke (Neckarsulmer Motorenwerke) took an active part in the designing and producing of two-wheel vehicles, and there were motorcycles with a side-car in its line as well.
It was a new measure of freedom for families as automobiles were rather expensive then. Parents were on the bike and children were in the side-car while travelling in the 60-s.
