The attempt of the company Volkswagen to enter the middle class took place in 1968 with the Typ 4 model. Evidently, that the designation "411" was chosen according to the popular then Porsche 911.
The serious technical alterations had already taken place, but the model was still equipped with a rear-located opposed air-cooled engine.
Model 411 was replaced by slightly improved model 412 4 years later..
Nevertheless, it took several years more till the VW could established itself in the middle class, and the Passat model came into being it became final.
Not so many copies of 411 model remained in comparison to other historic VW types.
