The "Societa Automobili Diatto A. Clement" was established in Turin in 1905 by Vittorio and Pietro Diatto, sons of Giovanni Battista, who created a big company which produced railroad material, taken over by FIAT in 1918. The Diatto oval logo with a white script on a red background, appeared in 1909, after the Diatto brothers had bought out the Clement's share-holding in the company. It's interesting to note the similarities of the Diatto logo with the Bugatti one, which was nevertheless born two years later.
During the first World War Diatto built aircraft engines under Bugatti licence and in 1919 they introduced a new car, the Tipo 30, also built under Bugatti licence.
Another prestigious cooperation in the Diatto history was the one with Alfieri Maserati, skillful driver and founder of the famous firm; at the wheel of the model "20/S", Alfieri won many races and also cooperated to design the 8-cylinders Diatto GP car.
In 1927 Diatto entered an official car at the first Mille Miglia, and in 1929 they stopped the car production.
The car shown in the museum is a formal tourer still with only front brakes, as usual on all the production cars until the late Twenties.
