Borgward “Isabella TS Coupé” - 1959

The most known and beloved Borgward model, “Isabella” was first shown in 1954: it was up to the car to enter that German home market particular segment, destined to the medium-size cars, which was at the time totally occupied by Ford, Mercedes and Opel cars. Fortified by its style much more modern and fascinating than that of its rivals, “Isabella” was able to carve out a niche for itself, thanks also to its complete range of models, including the saloon, station wagon or “kombi”, convertible and coupé, all with 2- door body.

The Museum car is a 2nd series TS Coupé, just built from 1958 to 1961: elegant and refined, with slender lines and good performance, the TS Coupé was built on a dedicated assembly line which guaranteed a better product quality. At the time market surveys described it as the car preferred by the German upper middle class ladies thanks to its large boot, and for its general quality it had a large diffusion in USA too.
