Designed by the company founder, Alfieri Maserati, the engine was the first to bear the Maserati logo. From the beginning, Maserati has been at the forefront of technology, with powerful yet lightweight engines; the double overhead camshaft and the volumetric supercharger characterized all Maserati engines (4, 6, 8 and 16 cylinder) until the birth of the A6 1500 in 1947.
