2002 Bombardier NEV

Bombardier NEV 2002

The vehicle is the Bombardier NEV, first introduced in Arizona last November but also for sale in California and Florida about the time you're reading this. (These states have passed legislation allowing low-speed vehicles like the Bombardier NEV to be legally street driven; other states are expected to follow.) Like the EV1, the NEV is intended to be a household's second or third car, a nod to the limitations of a current-day electric vehicle and, particularly in the NEV's case, recognition that this vehicle isn't designed to fulfill all your transportation needs. It's all pretty much summed up by the vehicle's name: Neighborhood Electric Vehicle (hence the acronym NEV). This EV, which is admittedly pretty golf-cart-like in overall stature, measuring in at just over eight feet in length, is designed for close-proximity driving only. Its top speed is a leisurely 25 mph (governed) with a single-charge range of about 30 miles. That eliminates any thought of this being a date car-the trip to the restaurant and the show would probably kill the battery pack. But it is well suited for travel during brief around-town errands.
