In the autumn of 1974 a new model Cota 172 for motorcycle trials was presented, which was based on Cota 123. The new model is equipped with bigger wheels - 1,75 x 21 in the front and 4.00 x 18 at the rear. Cota 172 is equipped with Betor engine of 157.7 cm3 capacity. It was more reliable than the engine in motorcycle models 74 and 123, but less reliable than 247.
