1984 Rieju Marathon

Rieju Marathon 80 cc 1984
Figueres (Girona)
Exhibit: Rieju S.A.

Green bullet

The last one hundred percent Spanish brand Rieju remained on historical justice. Now it produces mopeds and motorcycles of high quality that occupy a niche in their respective segments, especially in the class of 50 cc. Now the company is going through perhaps the worst crisis in its history.
But in the eighties they flourished in the category of 50 cc and category of 74 cc. Commercial successes combined with race victories on the road. And if the Derbi were known among the people as "red bullet", the Enduro Rieju deserve to be called as "green bullet" by color and successes that were made by the pilots of Rieju (Pep Vila and Francesco Rubio), won no less than six national titles in a row in the enduro class with 80 cc engine.
The model Marathon was at the heart of this success, which later became known as MR, produced with engines in volume from 50 to 80 cc. One of its main advantages was the Italian motor Minarelli, subsequently passed to the Yamaha and considered to be one of the most prominent aggregates of small volume.
In the case of 80 cc (actually 74 cc) the engine was cooled with water in the version of 1985. Francesc Rubio, the Champion of Spain and vice-champion of that year ISDE Trophy, held near La Cerdanya Lleida had such bike.
Even at that time, the Catalan brand offered the public a racing version of their model range, which was based on the official racing motorcycles with a few differences, which was a proof of the products quality. The official Rieju had an Italian fork Forcella and a monoshock with an anchor system of aluminum rods.
The drum brakes of the Grimeca firm and the engine (its volume was increased to 79.6 cc to obtain the values to the extent permitted by competition) with the exhaust system of manual work and Dell'Orto carburetor 30 mm (26 mm in the basic version) were installed on the motorcycle. The thermodynamics varied depending on the type and the output power was substantially the same as in the options offered in retail and was 21 hp at 12,000 rpm.
