The origin of the 7800 locomotives lies on the 50's electrification plan. They are the second generation of electric locomotives. Similar series were ordered to different manufacturers: French -7600-, British -7700- and American -7800-. One of the 7800 special features was its wheels arrangement (unheard-of in Spain till the 80's): six axles on three groups of bogies. Its first destination was the Leon depot but they came here at the end of the 50's, when the electrification in Catalonia ended. As new 7600 units arrived, the 7800 were progressively sent to the Cordoba reserve for the Madrid-Andalucia line. Originally the company bought 20 locomotives and nine more in 1958, thanks to the American help. In 1963 the whole series was moved to Alcazar de San Juan. They towed all kind of trains until the beginning of the 60's and, since then, goods trains. They were renovated in 1986 and continued working nill 1992.
