The endurance races in the motor sports world championship were opened in 1976 by cars of a new group-5. It was a signal for Porsche 911 Turbo (inside designation 930) to develop model 935. It became possible thanks to the use of the information, received from the employment experience of 911 Turbo RSR in 1974. As compared to Turbo RSR with its impressive rear fender in model 935 the size and the shape of the back wing were limited. It was allowed that nothing was higher than the sweep of a motor car’s lines when it was watched from the front.
It gave model 935 a horizontally adjustable wing, hung between two vertical ribs. It also concerned the construction of the rear spoiler, which had to be restored according to the decision of FIA.
For the first time Porsche used model 935 in the World Cup race in 1976. The premiere was a success: as in Mugello so at the next race in Vallelunga driven Ickx/Mass won the general victory and, thus, after 5-year break the World championship of manufacturers for Porsche was one again. 935 is one of the most successful autos in the era of racing cars’ production.
